Life, at times, can hit us pretty hard.
And even the strongest people amongst us need a little bit of help working through some of life’s more challenging problems.
Everyone has battles to fight and hurdles to overcome at some point. Whether you struggle with anxiety, depression, grief, or any other issue, you should know that there is hope for a better tomorrow.
Depression drains your energy, motivation, and zest for life.
At one point, work was great – fulfilling! Now the idea of waking up and making your way into the office causes you to just want to stay under the covers or call in sick.
It’s the same with family and friends… you seemed to always enjoy spending time with them. But the idea of skipping the next family get-together or social outing with friends is appealing. You’d rather be alone.
Depression can be a sign that some part of you needs attending to.
In therapy, we work to identify the root causes of depressed moods. We’ll develop new ways of seeing and being with yourself and the world – ways that strengthen and empower you with greater self-acceptance and a renewed joy in living.
Grief and loss can be painful, challenging, and overwhelming.
Often for the first time, we are open to conflicting emotions and may be unprepared to cope with this change in our life.
“How do I move on?”
“What happens now?”
Counseling can help facilitate a healthy passage through the grief process. We can more easily move gradually and naturally from being stuck in the cycle of grief to learning to integrate and embrace the loss into our life.
By gently allowing acceptance to emerge, we can allow ourselves to be comforted by our memories, feel less trapped, and continue to live and grow healthier day by day.
Anxiety and stress can be paralyzing…
…and over time are damaging to your mind and body.
The constant worry and concern about what happened, what could happen, what will happen… one thought runs into another and there’s always something trapping your thoughts.
There’s no break to just shut your mind down – it impacts your work life, family life, and health.
Together, we will work to identify thoughts, beliefs, and situations that evoke an anxious or stress-inducing response. We will create a solid plan to eliminate anxiety’s impact on your life. You will learn a blend of guided relaxation techniques and cue words that can be used anywhere to calm your body.
We will strengthen your self-image and increase your resilience to life stressors.
You might initially be hesitant to seek out help and support for personal matters.
But when you do, you will feel confident that you’re taking a courageous first step toward getting to a better place and being a better you.
My approach to helping clients overcome depression, grief and loss, and anxiety often integrates some nontraditional methods such as: relaxation and visualization techniques, nutritional and lifestyle education, movement therapy, spiritual counseling, meditation, and Tai chi/qigong.
